I was asked by Cardinal Sean to become the new pastor of the St. Lawrence and St. Mary Collaborative, i.e. the parish of St. Mary of the Assumption, effective June 1, 2018. When I heard the news of this new mission for me I was filled with joy, excitement, and peace. God has been so good to me, and serving him as a priest has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience for me.
As a newly ordained priest I was assigned to a very diverse community in Marlborough, where I ministered alongside some wonderful priests to English, Spanish, and Portuguese speaking communities. After four happy years in the parish, I was asked by Cardinal Sean to work with him as his secretary, which I did for over ten years. I am grateful to the Cardinal for the opportunity to serve him and the Archdiocese in that unique role, but I longed for the day when I would return to parish ministry. This is where my heart is!
It gives me great joy to be your pastor. I know that God has prepared me for this mission, and I am also aware of my own weaknesses and limitations. This parish has had a long line of good and faithful pastors, and I hope to be able to continue the fine work that they began. Please know that you all have a place in my daily prayers, and I would kindly ask for your prayers for me. I am blessed to walk together with you in our journey of faith and in our witness to Jesus Christ. Stay well and keep me in your prayers!
In Christ’s Love,
Fr. Jonathan Gaspar
