St. Philip Neri popularized the custom of visiting seven churches during Holy Week. By visiting the altar of repose at seven churches, we keep company with the Lord Jesus during his agony in Gethsemane, obeying His precept to "Watch and pray" (Mt. 26:41). As in past years, we will visit not quite seven churches, but almost, before arriving at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross for Compline at 11:30 p.m. Below is the tentative schedule.
1. St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord's Supper. Depart 8:40 p.m. 2. Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Stay until 9:10 p.m. 3. St. Francis Chapel. Stay until 9:35 p.m. 4. St. Cecilia Parish. Stay until 10 p.m. 5. St. Clement Eucharistic Shrine. Stay until 10:30 p.m. 6. Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Compline at 11:30 p.m.
